Time to get your cameras out, happy snappers, as Friday 19 August is World Photography Day.
World Photography Day originates from the invention of the Daguerreotype, a photographic processes developed by Louis Daguerre. On January 9, 1839, The French Academy of Sciences announced the daguerreotype process. A few months later, on August 19, 1839, the French government announced the invention as a gift “Free to the World.”
Another photographic processes, the Calotype, was also invented in 1839 by William Fox Talbot (it was announced in 1841). Together, the invention of both the Daguerreotype and Calotype mark 1839 as the year that photography was invented.

ReplyDeleteLovely shot and the information!
I'm going to be talking to a group of girl scouts about photography and I was just thinking I needed to research the history of photography. I think they'll be surprised to know how long ago it was invented. Your image is beautiful!

What lovely photos you have on this blog. I'm actually learning some photographic history since I joined this course. It's so crazy to think of what photographers had to do those days in order to get a photography. The earliest once had to bring the entire darkroom with them. Have a lovely day!
